The Rooker HouseThe Art Station - Big Shanty was built in 1943 as a summer home for the Rooker family, but eventually it became their permanant home. Originally located where Kennesaw Mountain High School now stands, the house was moved and (over a two year period) transformed into the arts center we have today.

With two multi-media classrooms, a black-and-white photography darkroom, a pottery studio, meeting space and a gallery, this creative facility is an excellent addition to the Cobb County Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department. Programming includes classes and workshops in the visual, performing, and literary arts during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters; visual, dance and theater camps for children during the Summer quarter; and exhibitions and meeting space for arts-related activities year-round.

The front gallery usually features work by our teachers, most of whom are local artists. The back gallery houses our main exhibits, which rotate monthly and feature a variety of artists and media.

fishie! In early November, Guiermo finally departed for South America to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a piranah. We all miss him greatly, but we know he's enjoying himself.

Guiermo's two young cousins, also Black Moor goldfish, have come to live at the Art Station in his stead. Their names are Merry and Pippin, and they are fun-loving young fish who just can't stay still long enough for a picture.
